Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure in which the stratum corneum (dead outermost surface of the skin) is partially or completely removed by light abrasion. The term dermabrasion itself refers to the more severe medical procedure carried out under general or light anesthesia.

In the past, microdermabrasion was carried out using abrasive crystals. However, in the last decade, it has become more common to use a wand with a roughened surface.

uses the Ecleris "Minivac" diamond tip microdermabrasion system, which operates without the need for crystals. The exfoliation process occurs when a diamond tipped head, or fraise, makes contact with the skin and abrades against it, with the dead skin cells being sucked away from the face. The fraises come in a range of sizes and grades of coarseness, to cater for a variety of skin types and conditions.

In microdermabrasion the tiny diamond particles on the fraise "sand" or "polish" the skin and gradually remove scaly, scarred tissue or discoloured epidermal tissue, thus it is used for removing roughened scaly accumulations of dead skin cells (which may be pale or discoloured) for reducing superficial scars, for improving fine surface lines and helping treat or prevent acne by removing the minute plugs which block the sebaceous glands in the skin.

Advantages of Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion has the advantages of low risk and rapid recovery compared with other techniques such as standard dermabrasion, chemical peeling and laser resurfacing.

Advantages include:

  • It is almost painless
  • Facial redness is minimized
  • Simple and quick to perform
  • Can be repeated at short intervals
  • Does not disrupt the client's life greatly

Added Feature
