Medically, freckles are referred to as ephelides. Freckles are small flat brown marks on the skin. Fair skinned people are more prone to freckling but freckling can occur in the dark skinned as well. Freckles will be seen on areas of skin exposed to the sun and will be most noticeable during summer months. The best treatment for freckles is good sun protection.
In older people where “freckles” are related to sun exposure and solar skin damage, they are technically called lentigines (plural of lentigo).
Lentigines can be improved or removed by a range of treatments – laser (for individual lesions), Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) or Photodynamic Therapy (PDT), or Skin Peels for avas of lesions.
